The debate over the Alberta Hospital rages on.Unfortunately for those making the decisions to close the geriatric beds, and trying to justify it by saying it increases the number of long term care beds available. Somehow, regardless of how this is explained, the costs of doing such a move just do not add up. One does not have to be a financial wizard to realize that in the long term all that this is doing is costing the taxpayer more money.

It is time the upgrades that have been promised take place at Alberta Hospital. For too long mental health, and the way we adminster care to those affected, has been overlooked. We need this hospital. Good on ya AUPE for leading the fight !!!

Alberta Health Services can’t hide the evidence that redeveloping Alberta Hospital is the right choice for not just the Mental health Patients but the taxpayers as well. Why wouldn’t you redevelop your existing buildings that are conducive to mental patients health and at the same time providing new Long Term Care beds at Villas Caritas?

More evidence of short-term thinking and planning. With an aging population, we clearly will need more of these beds, not fewer! If redeveloping the hospital costs less money and keeps more long-term beds in the system, it’s difficult to understand why AHS is set on moving the beds.

Unfortunately, I find this believable…from this government and it’s incompetent former health minister. Please, Mr. Zwodesky, use some common sense…upgrade Alberta Hospital and leave the seniors long term unit as is.

Sounds like the Conservative Government may have some hidden agenda to me. I just don’t understand the lack of common sense with our governement.

Is “Villa Caritas” another private property development that donanted money to the Conservative Government Party by chance?

Please don’t close this hospital!! It has been a God send to me and my family for my son. For the first time in many years we know our son is safe and warm and if we want to see him we know he will be there when we get there and if we want to call him he will answer. He is a paranoid Schizophrenic with anti social behavioural tendencies and is very sick. He does no comply with medication he can be very disruptive and has become violent at times. The Hospital has been his safe haven for sometime now. We need more places like Alberta Hospital not less! Please reconsider this plan and keep our children and yours safe.

I have a brother who is bipolar and this decision by the Alberta government is extremely upsetting. Until you have a family member who suffers from a mental illness it is hard to understand how heartbreaking and difficult it is to deal with. Unfortunately many people will suffer from this decision and then the government will have to spend three times as much to get the facility back up and running after they see the impact this has on society.

What does that say about us as a society when we neglect the most vulnerable people in it? When future generations look back, what legacy do you want to leave. That we cared for people who needed it the most or that we let them blow in the wind. Keep Alberta Hospital open. If our people didn’t need special care, they wouldn’t be there.

The recent Alberta Health Services moves have the goal to bring our health care system into a private one – they nominated a lot more lawyers and business people than doctors at important positions in order to slowly move our entire health system to be private – why are we letting them get away with this..? A person such as Liepert should have never been given the job of Health Minister in the first place – he doesn’t care much of anything except his own agenda.
Why are we always following US policies? Is it not obvious by now that the US is disintegrating..!? American citizens are envious of us because we leave in a better country. I am embarrassed of my government – we need leadership and Stelmach is not a leader.
The PC has been way too comfortable the last 40 years or so – no wonder they don’t listen to Albertans – with 90% of the seats why they would…
